Prices are the amounts of Gold that a player has to pay when buying and item or receives when selling an item. The calculations related to prices are actually surprisingly involved.
Item Value[]
Each item in the game has a set value associated with it. These values tend to be nice round numbers, such as 500 or 2000. The item value is usually the only value that is hard-coded into the game, while all other values are obtained by doing a calculation on the item value. The item value is also the price that Sholop or Lysis will sell the item for, if the item is one of the ones they trade.
Converting Prices[]
There are four different types of prices:
Buy prices (Sholop/Lysis)[]
These prices are identical to the item value described above.
Sell prices (Sholop/Lysis)[]
To calculate the sell price from the item value, one of the following two function is applied:
- If the item value is less or equals to 200 gold:
- If the item value is greater than 200 gold:
where denotes rounding to the nearest integer e.g. , , . The exponent 0.741 is suspiciously close to , which would ensure that the sell price of an item worth 500 gold would be 100 gold. Whether this is actually where this number comes from or why Simple chose to only use the first three digits is not known.
Buy prices (Darklow)[]
When buying from Darklow, players have to pay more gold than at other shopkeepers. To obtain Darklow's buy prices from the item value, you use
where denotes rounding down. Darklow's buy prices are therefore the item value plus 10% plus 5 gold.
Sell prices (Darklow)[]
Darklow buys items for less gold than the other shopkeepers. His sell prices are derived from the other shopkeeper's sell prices:
When converting any of these prices back to the item value, be aware that there are rounding operations involved, which means that just applying the inverse functions will yield results which are slightly off. However, since the item values tend to be round numbers, i.e. multiples of 100 or 1000. If a number like this is close to the result obtained, there is a high probability that it is the actual item value.
Exceptions[]
There are some exceptions to the above formulas. Firstly all gemstones can both be bought and sold for their item values, at any shopkeeper.
Item | Value | |
---|---|---|
Emerald | 2,000 | |
Pearl | 7,500 | |
Sapphire | 10,000 | |
Ruby | 25,000 |
Secondly, Darklow has a dislike for certain pelts (maybe he is allergic?), so he has "special" prices in place if a player comes along with one of these pelts:
Item | Sell (Darklow) | |
---|---|---|
Rabbit Pelt | 1 | |
Wolf Pelt | 2 | |
Pink Rabbit Pelt | 3 |
